Executive Summary
This project addresses the need for trained non-medical support professionals to effectively support women through the menopause transition.
Despite menopause being a universal experience, gaps in awareness and professional training persist. Medical practitioners often receive limited education in menopause care, resulting in misdiagnoses, ineffective treatment, and women feeling unheard and unsupported.
The programme was designed to move beyond awareness-based learning and develop applied, client-facing competence, enabling professionals to deliver practical, evidence-informed support in real-world settings.
Challenge
Despite menopause being a universal experience, many women feel uninformed and unsupported. Limited training among professionals and reliance on informal information sources lead to misdiagnosis, low confidence, and poor self-advocacy.
The challenge was enabling professionals with varied knowledge levels to confidently apply menopause support in real-world contexts.
Solution
Design Goal
To shift menopause support from knowledge-based awareness to applied, client-facing competence.
I designed an 8-module programme using a spiral approach so learners could build understanding without feeling overwhelmed.
A big focus was helping people move from understanding menopause to actually supporting someone through it. Each module was layered, starting with the medical context, then what it looks like in practice, and finally the tools they can use with clients.
Learners worked with real clients, so they had to apply what they were learning and build confidence in real situations, not just in theory.
To support them on the job, I included simple job aids, process models, and an AI chatbot for quick guidance.
Because talking about menopause can be uncomfortable, I added a social learning space where trainees could ask questions, share experiences, and get used to having these conversations more openly.
Assessment focused on how well they could apply their skills in real-world situations.
Results
100% course completion rate
Learners demonstrated improved ability to identify symptoms, apply structured support, and communicate confidently
Women supported by learners reported increased confidence and improved self-advocacy
